Family Who Lost Home in Fire Wins Big in Random Giveaway

While thousands entered Clayton Homes' 2011 Dream Home Giveaway, it was lucky Charleston, SC-area resident Doris Davis who won a custom-built home valued up to $150,000 from Clayton Homes.

On the afternoon of November 22nd, a team of enthusiastic Clayton Homes employees surprised Doris with the news at her current residence–complete with a key commemorating her prize. "I've never had a new home in my entire life," she exclaimed.

"Her name was drawn at random from thousands of entries, but when we heard her story, we were happy to hear that such a deserving family had won," said Tony Massarelli, Clayton Homes Regional Manager. Earlier this year Doris and her family were awakened to a house fire by the barking of their loyal dog, Princess. The chocolate labrador saved their lives, but unfortunately their home and possessions burned to the ground that night.

"It was devastating," said Neal, Doris's husband of almost thirty years. "Thanks to Clayton Homes, Christmas has come early!"

Doris formally accepted her prize on December 5th at the Clayton Homes of Moncks Corner, the Home Center where she entered the contest. Surrounded by family, friends and Clayton team members, Doris shared her prize choice: a brand new 3 bedroom, 2 bath Clayton home by Southern Energy.

"This is the first time we've done anything like this," said President and CEO Kevin Clayton. "There couldn't be a better time of year to surprise someone with the gift of a new home."
